Waxing your car is as important as cleaning it. A car wash only provides a temporary sparkling look while it is a car wax that actually defends the car paint from the harmful environmental factors. Always remember to wash and dry your car before applying any kind of wax. There are a multiple of reasons to park your car away from the extreme weather because direct sunrays and a strong current of wind will wipe off the layers of applied wax before you could even relish the results.

The Steps

Use a damp wax sponge by applying a large coin sized wax in small circles. Apply wax to different sections but remember the path you took. It is also important to realize that wax in the cracks or seams along the hood and doors can harm the functioning of these car parts. The next step is to wipe off the wax by a clean cotton cloth. A coat of wax will build up on the cleaning cloth. Don’t forget to shake off the wax, regularly. After cleaning, take a closer look and you might notice very small round stains. You must get rid of the remaining residual wax. The final step is to clean the entire vehicle with another soft cloth before enjoying that exhibition type look.

After washing your car, adding a coat of car wax can help protect the paint on your car against environmental factors.

Car waxes are not all the same. These include liquid, paste, and the spray on, wipe off types. The hardest to apply is liquid car wax and this is also the hardest car wax to buff out after applying. Paste car wax is now the least commonly used car wax.

For lighter cars, either natural or artificial waxes are good, depending on whether you want your car’s finish to be shinier or to have more richness of color.

Does the exterior of your car include much plastic? Some car waxes react poorly to matte plastic, especially the porous, dark kind so popular on recent models, and deposit a residue that may need extra attention with a special cleaner to remove. If your car has a lot of visible plastic, make sure the wax you choose is compatible with plastic.

How durable do you want the car wax to be, and how long are you willing to spend in applying it? Liquid waxes performed the best in durability and cleaning tests during a Consumer Reports comparison test of waxes. They also took the most time and effort to apply well, largely because spreading them evenly and rubbing out the streaks took considerable extra buffing.
